That thing…

Posted on

Every kid has “that thing” that is unique about them.  That thing that we will remember long after they are gone off and starting families of their own.  The thing that will always remind of us of that one child.  For Evan, it is hand holding.  Even when he was itty bitty I would take his hand and interlace my fingers while he was nursing or laying with me.  When you pick him up and he is hurt or tired the first thing he asks for is your hand.  When you lay down with him he immediately reaches out for your hand.

Hands.

Holding hands

This is something I am in NO hurry for him to outgrow.

I didn’t desert my blog I promise….

I have been in the throes of the great move of 2009 (and hopefully the last great move until 2014).  Last weekend we moved to our brand spanking new house (pictures to come when I get all the boxes cleared away).  I have to publically thank my mom…if she had not come down to watch the little boys I think Jason and I would have been forced to just stay at our old house.

The past week I have been putting together furniture, unpacking boxes, moving furniture, trying to find lost screws and not taking nearly enough pictures.  But, the important thing is we are IN!  And even more important is my new couches will be here on Friday.  WOO (we DESPERATELY needed new couches).

And while I have been doing all of the above, I have also been doing a lot of playing with my boys.  Our new neighborhood lends itself to the kids being out and about.  There is tons of room to ride and play and very little traffic.

Race

Austin has been taking a skateboarding class through our co-op and loves practicing. Totally the next Tony Hawk, yes?

Future Tony Hawk

We seriously love our new house and while I know it will take many months to get everything hung in the right place and situated I already feel like this is OUR home.

Chevy Converted Me…

Posted on

Sunday I had an amazing opportunity.  Thanks to Burbmom.net (which is a fabulous website that you must check out and be sure and read MY stuff on there) and Chevy, I was able to attend the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway in VIP style.

VIP

I am convinced that VIP is the only way to go. Chevy was awesome about the whole thing. I mean even the port-a-potty was schmancy (it IS a word).

Allie in the Schmancy Bathroom

I should mention now that I was accompanied in all of my shenanigans by the lovely Andie and Allie. I am pretty sure Chevy tried to not allow us all to come on the same day, but we found a way around that. I kid I kid. But, we are a little……different. That’s Allie in the bathroom.  She took our picture too.  Allie just bought her first DSLR camera, Andie is a FABULOUS photographer and well we all know that I take more pictures than is EVER necessary.  So you can just imagine how big of a pain in the rear we can be when we team up.

We even brought out “good” equipment.

Andie's new camera

Oh yea, back to Chevy and NASCAR.  My parents are NASCAR fans.  My brother is a NASCAR fan.  I have never really gotten into it.  I knew a little about it before this weekend.  But watching cars drive around in a circle has rarely been my idea of fun.   When I was invited to go I thought it was a good time to check out an actual race.  A funny thing happened.

I got converted.

I freaking LOVE NASCAR.

No one told me it was not just a race…it is an entire experience.

Let’s start from the beginning.  Andie, Allie and I all rode together, in my Chevy Suburban.  I felt good about knowing that I was showing up as a guest of Chevy in a Chevy.  It’s good symmetry.    We went into the Chevy Village of Champions to see what kind of trouble we could get into.  First off…there was this lovely photo-op.  I mean how can anyone NOT love a Corvette.

While we are talking Vettes, can someone please add this to my Christmas list?

I can totally see myself in this

About the time I took the above photo I smelled a very familiar smell….dirt bikes. My brother raced motocross for many years and I love the smell…love it.

Motorcross Nuts

Chevy was kind enough to allow us to go on a Pit Tour, which was really quite cool. I learned that tires are FASCINATING.

Tires

While in the pits I saw the #9 car of Kasey Kahne. I had to snap the picture knowing that Kasey is my mom’s favorite driver (she was covered in head to toe #9 while at the races that day).

Next up: Why I love Clint Bowyer.

One of my favorite things…

It has been madness around here lately.  Last minute road trips and getting ready for THE MOVE!  The move is actually looking like it is going to happen 10 days or so sooner than we had planned.  This is good and bad.  Good because I am so ready to be in my new house…Bad because I have not really packed much yet.

Here is the latest picture of the outside of the house….it is pretty much done:

The thing most people have asked to see is THE PANTRY!!! This pantry was actually a HUGE selling point for me. I like to buy bulk and I always run out of room to store things. Plus I have lots of kitchen gadgets and such. When Jason and I first saw another house in this neighborhood with this pantry he said, “Wow, lots of wasted space.” What did I say?

SOLD! When can we move in.

A tour:

It is DEEP.

Pretty awesome huh? AHHH, but there’s more! Walk in and turn to your right.

We are still not done.

It’s just so pretty.
